Le Kei restaurant: an unforgettable experience just down the street from the Relais du Louvre

It’s one of those places that you can never forget. Le Kei will leave you with lasting memories of a unique culinary adventure.

The location: a gorgeous, bright dining room with varying shades of gray, silver and white. A Venetian chandelier, upholstered Louis XV chairs, velvets, and white cotton tablecloths. Simple, clean table settings that are both contemporary and traditional.

The chef? Kei Kobayashi. This young virtuoso with a boyish face was born in Japan to a father who worked as a cook. He felt called to the culinary world while watching a TV show featuring Chef Alain Chapel. So 21-year-old Kei packed his bags and left for France, where he learned his trade from world-class experts including Christophe Moret at the restaurant of Alain Ducasse and Jean-François Piège at the Plaza Athénée.

He met his wife at the Plaza Athénée. Together they bought and renovated the Michelin-starred restaurant formerly owned by Gérard Besson and opened Le Kei in 2011. He earned his first Michelin star a short time later.

Kei Kobayashi

Le Kei has maintained the aesthetics and refinement of its Japanese owner. Each table reflects these values and the presentation of each plate is a lesson in graphic design. But the restaurant also reflects the Japanese traditions of harmony and soft colors, which can be seen in every dish. And of course, the chef did not forget to bring with him all the subtlety, delicacy and balance of flavors and textures that Japan has to offer. This is a Japanese chef who adores French cuisine and uses his full talents to pay tribute to the greatest aspects of the French culinary arts.

He quickly turns out one dish after another in a symphony of flavors. To taste them is almost to fall to one’s knees in gratitude for these dazzling creations:

  • Artichoke fritter with mascarpone cream and black truffle
  • Crisp salad of small seasonal vegetables
  • Potato gnocchi with an emulsion of parmesan and ham with thin strips of black truffle
  • Sea bass with quail, caramelized citrus sauce and Thai basil purée
  • Iberian ham, piperade foam and almond emulsion
  • Soft Vacherin cheese with passion fruit, pineapple and banana
Langoustine royale

Le Kei has a list of wines to complement your dish perfectly, including a wide selection of white Burgundy wines (Meursault; Puligny Montrachet) and red Burgundy wines (Pommard; Gevrey Chambertin). It is one of the only restaurants in Paris with a wine cellar holding between 6,000 and 7,000 bottles of over 150 different types of wine.

Creative dishes, unparalleled precision and the most exquisite local French produce. Hurry and book a table before Le Kei earns its second Michelin star – prices will then be bumped up a notch.
