“Christian Dior, dream couturier” exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts

This is the celebration of 70 years of creation of the great Maison de couture which will be sublimely staged at the Museum of Decorative Arts  up to January 7, 2018.

Elegance, magic, and refinement, there is no lack of adjectives to qualify this dazzling scene offered to the visitor to discover the world of Christian Dior and the artistic directors who succeeded him: from Yves Saint Laurent to Maria Grazia Chiuri through Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, and Raf Simons.

A firework display consisting of 300 haute couture dresses as well as fashion accessories, perfumes, drawings, and illustrations, photographs, letters, and manuscripts, compose this narration of the fabulous history of one of the most prestigious Maison de couture  in the world.

Dior Inspiration

Jean Cocteau said that Christian Dior’s name was magical because it was “made of God and gold”.

Today, as in his beginnings, Dior adopts and illustrates, with elegance and refinement, strong French cultural and artistic referencess to sublimate femininity. This is probably what has made him successful since 1947.

The Dior universe is first and foremost classical, even if it is always revisited and can refer to modernity. Admirer of the eighteenth century, Christian Dior often drew his inspiration from the era that reminded him of his childhood.

The decoration codes of the XVIIIth century are adopted in the Dior universe: white moldings, Trianon gray woodwork, Louis XVI medallion armchairs.

One can notice in the couturier’s creations, many references to paintings, sculptures, and neoclassical art of living with a real fascination for the floral theme.

It is a very beautiful retrospective of the history of the Maison de couture with a scene that knew how to preserve itself from a resort to codes of luxury devoid of cultural content, as can be seen sometimes.

No, Dior draws its inspiration from culture and art with true elegance, which makes it a very beautiful French signature. An absolute must-see!
